AFINISHES
Polished terrazzo floor in raking afternoon light, chair legs casting long shadows across the aggregate

Karachi Sophisticated hand crafted concrete tile

Concrete, terrazzo and natural stone.

We pour, grind and polish our own tile, and cut stone from the same yard. Every finish below is one we make, photographed as it arrives on site.

11 ranges, one yard

Concrete we pour ourselves, two finishes we also apply on site, and stone we cut to size. Everything on this list is held or made in Karachi, so a sample reaches a studio in days rather than by sea.

Every finish we grind, with its code

This is the whole book, not a shortlist. Filter by base colour and chip grade, then note the codes worth holding in your hand.

Broken terrazzo tile showing marble aggregate suspended through the full depth of the cement matrix

Marble aggregate set through the full depth of the cement matrix

03 What terrazzo is

Crushed stone, set in cement, ground flat

Marble, granite and glass are crushed, graded by chip size, and mixed into a cement or epoxy binder. The mix is poured, levelled and left to cure, then ground and polished until the aggregate reads as a single flat plane. The speckle is not a pattern applied to the surface. It is the material itself, cut open.

03.1

Why it lasts

The aggregate runs through the full depth of the tile, not across a printed face, so wear exposes more of the same material rather than a substrate. It takes heavy foot traffic, resists staining, and can be reground decades later instead of replaced.

03.2

What it costs the planet

The chips are offcuts. Marble and granite waste that would otherwise be tipped is crushed, graded and set back into cement, and the finished tile is itself recyclable at end of life. That is the whole environmental case, and it is a real one.

In their words

What I love about AFinishes is that they always make my space dynamic.

Mr Imran/Client

The three dimensional quality of their tiles deviates our focus from the plain surroundings.

Bilal/Architect

I love the way they use concrete by giving it a third dimension.
